アメリカ人の友達に会いに行く電車の中で、私の座席の目の前に突然、ベルギーから来たという30代前半ぐらいの男性が私の目の前に現われました。

突然英語で、「図書館にお財布を置いて来てしまい、お金が全くないんです。明日飛行機で帰国するんですが、今夜泊まれる宿泊費5000円を貸して欲しい」と言うんです。

警察に行くことを提案したところ、「警察に行ったけれど、お金を貸してくれなかった」
「後で返すから貸して欲しい」と、真顔で言われました。

「可哀そうだから5000円あげてもいいかな？」と思ったんですが、「日本語が出来なくて、図書館を利用するかな？　図書館に財布を置き忘れたら、なくならないよな？」とふと思い、貸しませんでした。

でも「もし私が間違えていたら・・」、とも思いましたが、アメリカ人の友達に話をしたら、「それはまず、詐欺でしょう」と言われました。

いやー、こんなことがあるのかと、本当にびっくりしました。　訪日外国人の数が円安の影響もあり、すごく増えていますが、このような詐欺師に遭遇することもあるようです。

【Scammers appear among foreign visitors to Japan! 💦】

On the train to visit an American friend, a man in his early 30s, who said he was from Belgium, suddenly appeared right in front of my sight.

He suddenly said to me in English, “I left my wallet at the library and I have no money at all. I am flying home tomorrow, and I need 5,000 yen for staying a hotel tonight. Can I borrow it from you?”

I suggested him to go to the police, then he said, “I went to the police, but they didn’t lend me any money.”
He said with a serious face, “I will pay you back later, so please lend me the money.”

“I feel sorry for him, I thought to myself should I give him 5,000 yen?” But he can’t speak any Japanese, and I wonder if he is able to use the library?　If he left his wallet at the library, he wouldn’t lose it.” So I didn’t lend it to him.

But when I talked to my American friend, she said, “He must be a scammers.”

I was really surprised that such a thing could happen.　
The number of foreign visitors to Japan has increased dramatically, partly due to the depreciation of the yen, but it increases the chance to encounter such swindlers.
