最近、私は“本物の冒険家”に立て続けに出会っています。
まるで、挑戦する人々を引き寄せているような不思議な感覚があります。
​
その中でも特に衝撃を受けたのが、
世界初・全盲でヨットによる太平洋横断を達成した岩本光弘さんとの出会いでした。
ご連絡をいただき、Zoomでお話する機会をいただきました。
​
岩本さんは、視力を失うという逆境を受け入れながら、驚異の精神力と行動力で人生を切り開いてきた方です。　挑戦を続ける生い立ちを聞き、私は圧倒されるばかりでした。
​
前回の挑戦は、55日間、無寄港、2人だけの太平洋横断。
それでも彼は次に、「１人で太平洋横断を計画している」 と話されました。
​
日本では法律上できなくても、アメリカでは“自己責任の文化”により挑戦が可能だといいます。　この違いだけでも、文化の差を強く感じました。
​
話を伺いながら、私はふと自分の生き方を省みました。
私はこれまで、安全で確実な道を選び、守られた範囲で行動してきた・・
​
彼のような挑戦者に触れると、自分の「限界」や「前提」が書き換えられます。
挑戦し続ける人の話を聞くことは、まるで“疑似体験”のように、勇気と新たな物の見方を
与えてくれます。
​
世界、特に日本の人たちに、こうした実例にもっと触れてほしい。　困難に立ち向かい、世界で活躍するための思考は、挑戦者との出会いから育まれます。
​
その一歩として、英語と異文化理解は欠かせません。　世界とつながる最強のツールです。
​
私自身も、ビジネス英語と異文化コミュニケーションを通じて、皆さんの“世界で生きる力”を育てていきたいと強く思っています。

🌏 Learning the “Global Mindset” from Challengers
Lately, I’ve been meeting one “true adventurer” after another.
It feels almost like I’m attracting people who embrace challenges.
​
Among them, the encounter that struck me most profoundly
was with Mitsuhiro Iwamoto, who achieved the world’s first Pacific Ocean crossing by yacht as a fully blind person.
He reached out to me, and I had the opportunity to speak with him via Zoom.
​
Mr. Iwamoto is someone who has carved out his life with astonishing mental strength and drive, accepting the adversity of losing his sight. ​ Hearing about his upbringing filled with continuous challenges left me utterly overwhelmed.
​
His previous challenge was a 55-day, without calling at any ports, two-person Pacific crossing.
Furthermore he told me he is now planning to cross the Pacific solo.
​
He explained that while legally impossible in Japan, the culture of personal responsibility in America makes such challenges feasible. ​ This difference alone made me keenly aware of the cultural divide.
​
Listening to him, I found myself reflecting on my own life path.
Up until now, I’ve chosen safe, certain paths, acting within protected boundaries…
​
Encountering challengers like him rewrites my own “limits” and “assumptions.”
Hearing stories from those who keep challenging themselves is like a “simulated experience,” giving me courage and a fresh perspective.
​
I wish more people in the world, especially in Japan, could encounter such real-life examples. The mindset needed to face difficulties and thrive globally is cultivated through encounters with challengers.
​
As a first step, English and cross-cultural understanding are indispensable. ​ They are the most powerful tools for connecting with the world.
​
I myself strongly desire to cultivate your “ability to thrive globally” through business English and cross-cultural communication.
